Nomenclature May 12, 2004
Why are good domain names so difficult to create? Oh, I can think up names, don’t get me wrong - in fact, I’ve thought of too many to know what to do with. But none of them are good. They just don’t sing, damn it.
“Vomitcluster.” Nope. How about “buttweld”? Hmm; maybe. But I definitely don’t think anyone’ll frequent “raviolisunrise”. Perhaps I’m on the wrong track here, but I can’t help it. Besides, it’s not like anyone’s jamming the lines to browse “The Coffee Chronicles,” anyway. See what I mean?

I’m a fan.
And I must thank you for that, truly. Readers, as they say, keep me writing.
And you know, I actually kinda like “raviolisunrise.”
I admit that I check-in every so often…
I totally parsed that: raviolis-unrise, which I misread as raviolis uprise, and then I thought, ravioi suprise? And then: Beware the ravioli uprising: angry raviolis unite!
I’m actually impressed that you used the word “parsed” in common speech. Next thing you know, we’ll all be “grokking.”
Steph: it’s nice to know who’s out there; thanks.
Kate uses the word “parse” all the time. She’s a parser. I think just the other day she was talking about parsing a television commercial.
The real question is: does she refer to bits of information gathered thusly as “parsnips”?
Sorry; I couldn’t resist.
Sorry about that.
No, but she helped parse Lee. And I heard she made a trip one time to parse a penny.
You should be.
But I am glad you’ve continued to return to this post for more nonsense.
