edited built-in tag cloud font range by directly editing wp_tag_cloud()
using CTC4.1 plugin widget, not built-in WP2.3 tag cloud
using old niftybox code (grey box) instead of tabbed niftybox in Squible-beta2
edited squible’s style.css to remove redundant “float:right” from the div#nifty entry
added new function jwr_show_tags() to wp_cats_as_tags.php to call actual tags instead of cats for Squible’s use; this function does almost everything the original show_tags() does, except for the fact that it uses an implementation of the built-in WP2.3 function get_the_tags() to grab all tags for the post.
edited Squible’s single.php to call jwr_show_tags() in the loop.
edited the old niftybox code to call jwr_show_tags() as well.

Now currently testing CTC4.1, the “Configurable Tag Cloud”, which extends WP2.3’s built-in tag functionality. One of the best features, in my opinion, is that it’s able to display both tags and cats at the same time. This might help migration to an all-tag approach. For Squible, now the limited utility of the Tags list on the single-post page doesn’t have large impact anymore.

At the same time, however, that still leaves me with the issue of Asides. For this functionality to persist, Asides must remain astrict category. The plugin won’t see categories, at least not without some re-coding. Now

Although I’m currently enjoying modifying the Wrana/Orth 3CR^[1] theme, I’m running across several that I’m becoming at least equally fond of. There’s Neptune ^[2] by Ben de Groot. He’s got the site set up to implement a neat theme-switch; aside from some minor display bugs I note in Firefox, they seem fabulous.

I’m beginning to run into the same kinds of dilemmas I found when originally designing tcc^[3] ; namely, the fact that themes are made, not born. Design has to grow on you, I think. And, even though there’s usualy a net gain in “gee whiz”, the longer I spend under the hood, the less I like the car.

Thankfully, WP makes it easy to change your mind.

A little more fiddling here, making adjustments to Clemens Orth’s^[1] nice variation on the Relaxation theme. Lately, adjusting the templates a bit and adding a few enhancements^[2] Nothing major, yet. I always like fortune cookie files too, so I’ve implemented two of them, using the Witty Text plugin from Alex Malov. These will hopefully evolve into:

a rotating list of website mottos, sort of a meta-subtitle
a random quote generator, with somewhat appropriate content

I’ve dedicated some space for them above the main content and atop the sidebar.

I’ll be taking the 3-column relaxation theme for a spin. Looks real nice, and has a banner randomizer and a Flickr sidebar built-in. Very nice.
